A bumpy start and fascinating finish to the inaugural Northstowe Half Marathon & Fullscope 5K

Sunday morning: a spectacular sunrise, calm skies over the event venue and while everything was ready to start a big question mark arose as to whether the race would be able to go ahead after reports of the route being flooded due to a major water pipe burst in Oakington. It was the early reports from the residents and prompt action from Cambridge Water that saved the day!!

After only 30 min delay, Codi Hurd, a student at the secondary college and talented young gymnast whose hard work has earned him a place on the GB team took the starting horn to get the races underway.

After a shoulder to shoulder run, Martin Amos (Huntingdonshire AC) and Joseph Turner (Cambridge & Coleridge AC) served us a fascinating finish by crossing the finish line just a second apart with times of 1:15:22 and 1:15:23 respectively!! Emma Hodson (Cambridge University Hare and Hounds), the winner of last year’s Northstowe 10K at the Running Festival, comfortably won the women’s competition with the time of 1:20:41 and taking 4th place overall! Clare Thurgood (Cambridge & Coleridge AC) and Edward Moffett came top in the first edition of the Fullscope 5K.

Winners received trophies, prizes from Over Power Cambridge and Fit Again Sports Therapy, Northstowe Running Festival merchandise as well as a free entry to next year’s race. Congratulations to all the age groups winners who will receive vouchers for discounted entry to the next race and Northstowe Running Festival merchandise. Congratulations to all who took part in the race 👏

A massive thank you to all the wonderful people who dedicated their free time to volunteering and who helped this event become reality. We couldn’t have done it without you! Sponsors, partners, media partners, landowners, local authorities, the list is long and we are very grateful for all the support.

One of the most satisfying things post event was the amount of thanks and positive feedback we received for our marshals, which of course we shared with them; it turns out they had had a pretty good time too, with some of them already pre-booking their marshal positions for next spring’s event! We’re looking forward to some friendly competition, seeing if anyone can out do ‘Disco Corner’.

We are proud to be supporting young people’s mental health and wellbeing by donating all the profit from Fullscope 5K to the partnering charities. On their behalf, we would like to thank you for your generosity and all donations. We will share very soon how much was raised.

And finally, We are pleased to announce that Northstowe Half Marathon & Fullscope 5K will take place again on the 23rd of April 2023! The early bird entries will open next week with the best price and discounted merchandise on offer for a limited time, don’t miss it!
