If you’d love to be involved with the event then volunteering is a great way to do so! We need amazing people like you to volunteer at our event – we could not do it without you! Previous volunteers have had a great time and we like to think we look after you well, making sure you’re well-provisioned with snacks and drinks as well as the equipment and information you need to enjoy your role safely. We offer anyone volunteering for any of the main roles outlined below a free entry to run in one of our future events. There are 5 main volunteer roles to select from, plus we always welcome additional help before and after the event to set up and clear away. We appreciate that some of these roles are a significant time commitment, so where possible we have broken them down into shorter slots – if you’re flexible feel free to choose multiple slots that suit your timings or the ‘I’m flexible’ option and our volunteer coordinator will be in touch closer to the event to check your availability and preferences for the available slots.

Course Marshals  (Must be 18+ but can be accompanied by responsible / well-supervised younger people): Out on the course directing runners and making sure people are aware of runners in the vicinity.  You can customise your pitch to encourage the runners – music, balloons and bubbles mean that you have fun too!

Approx. timings: Briefing at 8.15 – in position on the course until the last runner passes (approx. latest 1.30)

Registration: Check in arriving participants and match them with their race pack.

Approx timings: 8.15 – 10.30 & 10.15-1.00

Bag Drop: Take in the runner’s bags before the race and reunite them afterwards.

Approx timings: 8.15 – 10.30 & 10.30 – 1.30

Lead Bike & Sweep Bike / Tail Runner: The lead bike(s) ride ahead of the front runners to alert the marshals that runners are on their way and keep them on course.  The sweep/tail follows the final runner and ensures everyone gets back safely.

Approx timings: LEAD Half Marathon 9.00 – 11.30 / 5k 9.00 – 10.30 SWEEP/TAIL Half Marathon 9.00 – 1.30 / 5K 9.00 – 11.15

Water Stations:  Preparing and keeping a constant supply of filled cups for thirsty runners.  Like the marshal points you can have fun by customising your location. There are two water station locations and they’re ideal for a family or group to volunteer at.

Approx timings: 9.00 – 11.30 or 9.00 – 1.00

The finish area roles this year are being managed by our amazing charity partner the First Northstowe Scouts- volunteers supporting the scouts can also sign up here.

This event is only possible thanks to amazing people like you.

Thank you 🙏
